A day in the life of Disaster Dan
Dan is our case study character and his day of disasters will illustrate how having the right insurance cover is essential to your particular business. Dan, fortunately, does not exist. His experiences are a compilation of the typical claims that we receive from electricians.
On his way to a factory, Disaster Dan stops for coffee and his box of tools is stolen from his van. Luckily Dan is covered for this under his burglary and transit cover option. Later that morning, Dan incorrectly connects electrical equipment to the power supply and a worker is electrocuted.
Dan will be sued by the worker, but he is covered under his Broadform Liability (Personal Injury). In the confusion following the accident, Dan leaves his electrical current testing equipment and his Palm Pilot at the factory, where they disappear.
Luckily Dan is covered for their loss under his cover for specific items option. Unfortunately, while he is looking for his missing items, his van is stolen. Fortunately, Dan has Comprehensive Motor Vehicle cover, so he is insured.
While Dan is at the factory, a power surge destroys his computer, printer and fax at his workshop, wiping out critical business information. Dan is covered for the damage plus the loss of data, under his electronic equipment cover option.
Arriving at his workshop, he discovers that vandals have tried to break in and have damaged the door. Dan is covered for this malicious damage under his fire and other defined events cover option.
Later that night, the workshop catches alight. Dan’s electrical supplies, his tools, ladders and equipment and the furniture and flooring are destroyed. Thanks to the same fire and other defined events cover option, Dan is covered for the damage.
Finally, Dan develops hypertension and is incapable of working. Luckily Dan’s livelihood is protected by his personal accident and illness cover option which allows him to employ someone to fill in for him until he is well enough to work.
The above scenarios sketch the broad outlines of some of the cover options suitable to your particular business. For further details on the cover, additional benefits and exclusions for each cover option, as well as further cover options, please consult the Product Disclosure Statement or call us on 132 818.
